Hello everyone, After running some tests with cinebench on my new 7800X3D, I’ve seen it not hitting the advertised 5.0 GHz boost clock. Also, the voltage stays below 1.1V even though I have PBO and DOCP enabled on my motherboard and the latest non-beta BIOS for the board to prevent overheating. Should I open Ryzen Master and tweak some settings, or wait until a future BIOS update allows the CPU to run more efficiently? Thanks!

You're looking for the best frequency boost in that chip. Based on my observations, it typically reaches up to 5.05 GHz when idle, but under heavy core tasks it stays around 4.5–4.8 GHz, and a lower setting of -30 usually locks it at 5.05 GHz. If you enable the curve optimizer (which your model did), it becomes more stable at that higher frequency during idle time and lighter single-threaded scenarios.

Check if your R23 core speed is under 4.7GHz and look for thermal problems. When testing with a 7950x3D setup, it reaches around 4.9GHz during a +10min loop using either an AIO or air cooler. It stays at 89°C continuously and quickly. Ensure you're using the recommended 'balance' power plan and avoid switching to high performance mode, as that can cause unexpected speed boosts that hit thermal limits faster.

If that occurs, the cooler isn't linked properly. The 7800X3D shows a much different heat response compared to the 7950X3D—it's likely the simplest AM5 processor to manage heat. I haven't seen anyone using the one I tested stay under 80°C with an AK620, and some reports mention people keeping it in the mid-80s during Cinebench runs with Wraith Prism. While I wouldn't be overly worried about the chip reaching 89°C, I'd be concerned about the cooling setup since it shouldn't get that hot.

The consistent high performance you're observing comes from stable core boost clocks. *This initial capture was recorded at the finish of the test using a complete 16c setup, and the data is already included.*

It was 4.9GHz at 30% throttling in R23 with the -30 CO setting. Stock speed is around 4.75GHz, but I can't verify it right now. I assembled it for a friend who adjusted it slightly, and I plan to hand it over or assist him after he recovers from COVID. It's currently stored in my living room with the drive erased, so testing isn't possible at the moment. Buildzoid did some tests, though they didn't record clock speeds with their configuration—likely due to Ryzen's known inaccuracies.

Currently sitting at 4.8 during idle, with temperatures usually around 79°C. After coming home, I’ll perform another Cinebench test to verify.

Here are the results from the test now that I'm back home.

It looks like the ~500 point difference could be due to background processes. I’ve turned off most startup items for a clean launch of cinebench—only MSI Afterburner and HWinfo are running. I’m also considering that the 7950x3D setup likely uses binned CCDs versus the 7800x3D, and I’m using just four UEFI settings, three of which fit a 7800x3D (PBO +200MHz/-15mV, EXPO, 'prefer cache').

It looks like you made some changes with PBO. I left it in stock, but the score isn’t great. The main issue seems to be the lack of boosting. Check the clock speed—voltage stays the same and I don’t notice any boost even at around 4800 MHz. Does this match what you expected?
