I plan to install a 9800x3d on my home X670-e gaming WiFi and a 9950x3d on my work rig. My home setup uses a Noctua NH-D15 and the work rig uses an Nh-d15. I've noticed videos suggesting default settings are too high, but I haven't seen much CPU throttling on ASRock boards and I don't use one myself. The video link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cd3iwFTadoo. Should I need to adjust power limits manually for any of the CPUs after installing the coolers?
As long as Asus hasn't caused another problem, that's okay. They faced a comparable issue with the 7800x3d during its release.
As mentioned earlier, a typical approach is to apply a negative offset which can assist in lowering voltage and temperatures. I use a -15 offset with mine and it slightly lowered temperatures while giving better scores in cinebench. In gaming, there’s no obvious performance difference.
With several 9800x3d systems, they tend to run a bit warmer during idle. Mine stays in the high 30s, whereas my neighbors are in the low 40s. Both have the same motherboard cooler and offset. Mine has a radiator mounted, which brings in cool air compared to his exhausting hot air, likely explaining the difference. Mine will only reach mid to high 60s during a sustained cinebench session. I use a 360mm AIO.
There are many helpful guides online on this topic.
I believe that while the ASROCK problems have been thoroughly documented, there don’t appear to be many issues outside of that brand’s motherboard, so I wouldn’t be too concerned about it.
how much effort would be required to ensure safety, given only that xmp is enabled?
