Hi,
I own a Dell Optiplex 990:
Processor Intel® Core™ i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz
Installed RAM 32.0 GB
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch Pen support
Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 21H2
Installed on 4/14/2022
OS build 19044.3086
Currently using a NVIDIA GeForce GT730, though I’ve been able to work well with Photoshop and Lightroom for some time. However, recent updates suggest it would now need a GPU. With DirectX12 support (level 12.0 or higher), 4GB of GPU for 4K displays or higher, and the system being less than 7 years old, I’m thinking about upgrading.

I also consider installing the Topaz AI Photo Improvement app, which requires a GPU 900 or higher.

I reached out to NVIDIA to see if my setup could handle the RTX3050 (which would provide sufficient performance), but they advised an upgrade of the power supply to at least 400W (my current is 265W).

The main question is: can I simply swap the 265W PSU for a 400W one and replace the GT730 with the RTX3050? Would that be feasible? Would these changes affect compatibility with other parts of my system?

comment 3 here lists the tower models and names.
dell optiplex 990 cpu upgrade
hello! i’m curious if I can upgrade my dell optiplex 990 cpu from an i5 2400 to an i7 2600k. many people say the i7 2600 is compatible, but i’m checking if the i7 2600k will work for future overclocking. thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot guys. The video was really useful! I plan to get a 500 or 600 PSU and a GPU that fits in terms of length, which will keep me running smoothly for a while since it exceeds what I currently need for Photoshop/Lightroom and Topaz. Thanks again!
