You're right, it won't work. That 3500 won't match a 3600, unfortunately. I own the same processor.

In some markets they sell these items at retail prices, such as in Argentina, China, and even the US. I purchased one a while back and found it to be a great deal! Edit: also India, according to Bharghav.
