When connecting your phone charger, a minor spark occurs. This has occurred at several hotels recently with all outlets. Is this normal? Should you replace the charger?

It's a normal process where electrons move between the outlet and the plug, creating an arc when conditions are right. This happens because electrons seek paths and know how to enter the device. When voltage is sufficient, they can bridge air gaps. The arc stops once the charger makes direct contact. It only occurs if power is actively flowing through the circuit. If you connect a cord with no load, no arc forms. Also, an off lamp won't spark because the charger still supplies power.

Great! I appreciate it. Perhaps that unexpected burst of energy caught me off guard.
