Check if the parts work well together for your system.
Hi! With the assistance of Google, I selected some parts, but since this is my first self PC build, I wanted to check before buying anything. My budget is $900, and these are the components I’ve planned so far:
Motherboard: Gigabyte B150M-HD3 DDR4, Socket LGA1151
RAM: Kingston HyperX Savage 8GB (2 x 4GB), DDR3, 1866MHz, CL9
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700 (3.40 GHz), 3.40 GHz, 8MB, Socket 1151
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 6GB G1 GAMING, GDDR5, 192bit
HDD: WD Blue 1TB, 7200 rpm, 64MB, SATA 3
Network Card: TP-Link PCI 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit
Power Supply: nJoy Woden 750, 750W, 80Plus Gold, 140mm fan, Nvidia SLI/ATI Crossfire Ready, Active PFC
Mainly I’m focusing on gaming, but I also want solid overall performance. Thanks!
Update: Appreciate the feedback so far! I’ve checked the store and updated the following sections:
Motherboard: Gigabyte B150M-HD3 DDR4, Socket LGA1151
RAM
: Kingston HyperX Savage Black 8GB (2x4GB), DIMM, DDR4, 2133MHz, CL13, 1.2V
CPU
: Intel® Core™ i5-6600K, 3.5GHz, Skylake-S, 6MB, Socket 1151
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 6GB G1 GAMING, GDDR5, 192bit
HDD: WD Blue 1TB, 7200 rpm, 64MB, SATA 3
Network Card: TP-Link PCI 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit
Power Supply
: Corsair RMx 650W RM650x
2 problems with your build:
- you need DDR4 RAM @2133MHz
- the PSU is 750W. you need no more than 500W. get a 450-550W quality PSU, for example a XFX TS, any Seasonic, a Corsair CXM, an Evga Supernova GS/G2 or an Antec High Current
- also if you're just planning on gaming, watching movies and listening to music, there's no reason to go for the i7 as an i5 will perform just as well at significantly lower cost
Good components, even though I'm unfamiliar with that PSU. I'd recommend a quicker RAM speed and 16 gigabytes if possible. The specifications mention DDR4 memory, but you're getting DDR3, which is not ideal. You should opt for DDR4 instead of DDR3.
There are two issues with your setup:
- you require DDR4 RAM at 2133MHz
- your power supply is 750W, but you should aim for under 500W. Choose a quality PSU such as a 450-550W model from brands like XFX, Seasonic, Corsair, Evga, or Antec
- if you're mainly using it for gaming, movies, and music, an i7 is unnecessary. An i5 will work just as well at a much lower price
good options for PSU and RAM
if you have some cash remaining, consider getting an SSD for your operating system
