Check if the MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max supports 3900X.
I considered purchasing an MSI B450 gaming plus Max with a 3900X and an AMD stock cooler. Would the performance drop significantly due to the motherboard? Is it really essential to opt for a more expensive X570? I'm not aiming for small improvements, but a major performance decline. Should I invest in an aftermarket cooler? Since the performance drop could be substantial, maybe a 3700X would be better—just 65W TDP and less demanding on the CPU.
The 3900x should work fine at stock on the B450. You won’t be able to push it beyond its limits. I’d opt for a budget dual cooler, such as a Gelid Phantom or an Arctic Freezer 34 duo. If you plan to move up to the 4000 series later, consider buying an X570 now—it won’t fit with the B450.
