Hello! I understand this might be a bit confusing, but I’m here to assist. Just to clarify, I ordered an MSI MAG Z490 Gaming Wi-Fi card from Amazon and received a refund. I bought another board that looked similar, but it doesn’t have Wi-Fi. The original Z490 has bent pins, though I’m not sure if that affects its functionality. I’m thinking about sending it back and want to know: Will it work now? If so, what steps should I take? If I install my I7-11700K CPU, could it damage the board? Are there any affordable options with Wi-Fi that match the Z490’s performance? Any advice from experienced users would be greatly appreciated!

It might be resolved using tweezers and some patience, though it seems unnecessary to invest time if the item can be returned. There are many bent pins involved.

You might try fixing it yourself, but with the pins scattered everywhere, I wouldn't expect it to function properly.

It seems like you're considering whether it's worth attempting to fix the other board, especially since it arrived damaged and is now the wrong one. You've already tried moving the pins carefully but aren't sure about the direction, which makes things tricky.

The pin configuration is completely problematic and seems implausible as an accident. It's unclear what other issues might exist with the board. There could be missing capacitors or other defects. Don't invest over 100 hours trying to fix it—return it.

To answer your questions The odds of it working now are basically zero Yes it's fixable, either by painstakingly bending all the pins back or replacing the socket. Whether it's worth the effort is another story. It might technically be possible for the CPU to be damaged if there are two pins touching, but it's probably fine. The cheapest Z590 board you can find. The Z590 Steel legend looks decent. That said, you might be better off flipping the CPU and going 12th gen instead.

I’d be furious if it showed up like that. @BoscaDunFear I’m impressed by your patience.

I'm doing my best. Thanks for all the feedback. I'm planning to put together the rest of my cash and just grab a better board since I don't trust Amazon anymore. I hope everyone sees an awesome build soon!

Check if the item was marked as used from another source or remanufactured. If it wasn't, the listing is MSI or from the seller, not Amazon.

Marketed as brand new, yet sourced from Amazon warehouse due to lower pricing; alternative stock also available at reduced cost
