Check if the motherboard is damaged after a power surge.
I assembled my PC from Micro Center in New York and had a three-year extended warranty. It lapsed last month. After relocating to Florida, recent storms and a possible power surge damaged my system. I’m stuck trying to fix it because the nearest Micro Center is now a six-hour drive, and local shops lack helpful parts. Here’s what I’ve attempted:
1. Disconnected everything, dismantled the unit, and tested each part individually.
2. Connected just the CPU to the motherboard with its power cables, tried booting via jumper but got nothing—no lights, fan not spinning.
3. Reset CMOS using both jumper method and removing the battery; the CMOS voltage was around 3V, not a faulty battery.
4. Tested the power supply following Corsair’s instructions; it worked—fan activated in low load mode.
5. Found someone nearby with an Alienware Aurora R11/12; I removed their card and used it in my slot, but no signal.
My setup includes: Windows 10 Pro, MSI Z390 MPG Gaming Edge AC (latest BIOS), Intel i7-8700k, 4x8GB Crucial Ballistix AT (XMP), ASUS RTX 2080, Corsair RM750x, and several cooling components.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Is this a total failure? How can I verify other components? Thank you.
