Do you know if this motherboard includes graphics support? Also, with an i76800k CPU, does that assist in your NAS build without a dedicated GPU?
It lacks a video display, which means it won’t function properly. The motherboard is missing a GPU and is integrated into the CPU. Look for boards that include a video output and are compatible with your CPU.
If your motherboard don't have VGA/HDMI/ any sort of video output then the mobo does not have iGPU. Or if it has output... Plug the monitor to the on-board video port, then just turn it on. No video = no iGPU.
Mobo lacks video output capabilities. The i7 includes an integrated graphics unit, but without a video interface there are limited options. You might consider using it as a NAS with remote VNC control, letting the i7 manage rendering and transcoding—though you’d need a separate discrete GPU for that. Some boards need a placeholder output before the iGPU activates, so results can vary. I follow the same configuration at home, which performs excellently. EDIT: Clarification from @YoungBlade. The 6800K is part of the Extreme Series and does not come with an integrated graphics unit. I initially thought it did because typical 6000-series chips do.
Offer the CPU for sale and trade for a more affordable, lower-power option suitable for NAS systems. Skip overclocking and costly motherboards. Consider models like Intel 10100 or Ryzen 1600AF/3100. Even without built-in graphics, you can use inexpensive video cards under $10-15 on eBay, such as older R5 240 units that fit in PCI-E X1 slots. If you need extra SAS/SATA controllers, you could repurpose an x16 slot or install a riser to connect the card directly. Modify the bracket to fit standard slots or adjust it for a direct PCI-E X1 connection.
Thank you for your feedback. It offers plenty of suggestions.
That's correct, I missed that the Extreme Series lacks the integrated GPU. I thought the standard 6000-series models included one.
