Check if the CPU is malfunctioning or if it needs thermal paste.
Hello, Your CPU consistently runs at around 70% and your system becomes very slow. The keyboard, mouse, and even simple operations start to lag, with frequent frame drops. It’s unclear what’s causing this issue. Below are your specs for reference: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/70768124
How are your temperatures? If they're normal, the problem isn't thermal. Do you have a CPU cooler? Is there enough airflow in your case? Single-channel RAM isn't solving the issue. Your SSD is fine but not fast. Is your 2070 Super in an x16 PCIe slot connected straight to the CPU? (GPU-Z can confirm.)
70% doesn't give the full picture. Focus on per-core performance. If the initial cores are fixed, you'll experience significant slowdowns and lag. Usage varies across cores—some run much faster than others.
You're using single-channel memory which can hurt game performance, and the H310 board may face VRM throttling when running at high loads on the 9600KF. Does your setup provide adequate airflow? What type of CPU cooler are you using?
Only the main processor matters; if it's the sole component, a replacement might be wise.
it has pretty good airflow but it's under the desk and has enough room for airflow but the cpu cooler wouldnt be the best, its gotten worse over the past few months so it must be something to do cpu wise? I'm not the best with all this stuff and don't know why it's gotten worse
It seems the VRMs are throttling, possibly due to dust accumulation. Dust acts as an insulator on the motherboard and can block airflow through the case if it accumulates near the vents. Since you haven’t applied new paste, this might be the cause. The CPU paste should have dried out after about six years, which is typical. Your screenshot displayed low CPU temperatures but only showed 36W—normally it would be 65–95W under load. Did you run a stress test at the time of the photo, or is that idle temperature?
