Right now you have an Asrock x370 Taichi with Ryzen 5800X, 2x8GB CL14, and 3200 RAM. With the latest Zen chips, memory performance has improved significantly. Do you think it’s realistic to install a 2x32GB CL16, 3200 RAM upgrade? The QVL updates haven’t been refreshed recently, so I’m not sure if it would work. I’ve already purchased a Mushkin Redline 3200 kit with 2x32GB and various timings, but I’m wondering if others have had success with this configuration.

In the worst situation, you’d have to adjust timing settings yourself. This was exactly what I faced with my 2x32G 3600MHz system in that server—otherwise it would cap at around 2400MHz. Now it operates smoothly at 3800MHz with even more precise timing.

I focus more on the motherboard generation. The QVL didn’t even check 32GB DIMMs. I’m not very familiar with balancing memory controller inside the CPU versus the chipset/board, though my idea was that since the controller is built into the CPU, the main factors are the connections between CPU and RAM slots plus the BIOS setup.

Here are some alternative ideas you might consider. Looking forward to your feedback! Another possibility would be purchasing a 2x16GB module with identical specifications as your current setup. It’s uncertain if this will work well, but I’m open to 32GB or even 48GB right now. I’m not sure the CL16 memory will significantly impact performance compared to the CL14. I’m also a bit hesitant about the Mushkin Lumina because it requires software for RGB control and I don’t like the rainbow effect.
