I checked this setup recently: after swapping my RTX 3070 for an RX9070 XT while keeping the same 750W 80+Gold PSU, I experienced full system crashes during demanding titles like Cyberpunk or Hogwarts Legacy. It seems the power delivery might be the issue, though I’m not certain. I turned off all overclocking in AMD’s Radeon utility. What are your thoughts? Should I upgrade the PSU size? Here’s what I have: Windows 11 25H2, i5-12600K (well cooled, max 60°C), 32GB RAM at 3200MHz DDR4, Gen4 NVMe SSD, Sapphire Pulse RX9070 XT (also well cooled, max 60°C). I ran DDU in safe mode before the swap and cleared all Nvidia drivers, leaving only AMD graphics.
750W should work for that setup. Look into the Windows Event Viewer to find any crash-related logs. Run some synthetic tests to see if you can force a shutdown. Which power supply ports are connected? You have VGA1, VGA2, and a CPU port. VGA1 and VGA2 each support up to 35A (about 420W at 12V) and the CPU supports 25A (300W). The RX 9070XT typically uses around 300W. If the graphics card is connected to the CPU rail together with your CPU, it could overload that rail and cause the system to power down. Ensure the CPU cable is attached to the labeled CPU port and the graphics card cable goes to either VGA1 or VGA2. Alternatively, use two separate PCIe cables—one to VGA1 and one to VGA2—to distribute the load, though this isn’t usually needed.
Have you attempted to replicate the issue in another room of your home? Certain circuits or outlets may have more contaminated power, making it possible that testing a UPS could be more affordable than replacing the entire power source if that proves to be the cause.
