Last year, my friend upgraded his PC with a Ryzen 3200G processor, an ASUS Prime A320M-K motherboard, a 120GB Kingston SSD, a Cougar XTC500 80+ PSU, three fans, and a GSKILL Ripjaws 16GB RAM with 3200MHz. We attempted to set the CPU overclock to 3200MHz using DOCP, but after about a minute it restarted at 2400MHz. We searched for fixes but found nothing until now. We updated the BIOS and drivers, suspecting the PSU was the issue. The problem persists even when we try higher frequencies like 2666MHz, 2933MHz or 3000MHz. Could it be the PSU or the RAM?
Early Ryzen systems had strict requirements for RAM speeds, often struggling to match their rated rates. The A320 model is particularly known for being a lower-end option from that era. Running in single channel significantly limits performance, even with a 3200mhz module. It might be wiser to use dual 8GB modules instead, regardless of frequency.
It doesn’t seem like the motherboard or PSU is the issue. You might want to test a different RAM to check if the problem persists, and remember that having dual-channel RAM is essential for an APU.
