Hey everyone, I just installed my new cooler for the Ryzen 5 3600, specifically the Scythe Mugen 5 Rev.B. I was running some stress tests to monitor temperatures using Cinebench R20 and Prime with AVX. I’m not sure if the readings are satisfactory. My build includes the Ryzen 5 3600 plus PBO auto (probably just a setting, not an issue), an MSI B450 Tomahawk Max with DDR4 3200 CL16, and a SKILL Jigsaw. When I run Cinebench R20, I usually do it multiple times in a row so the heatsink warms up before the final test. I reached about 78°C while all cores were at 4.050MHz. I know Zen 2 uses a pretty aggressive boost algorithm, but I saw some posts where people achieved around 70°C with similar setups. That’s puzzling. Did they underclock or was it an all-core overclock? I’m not sure if I should try undervolting (though I don’t think it’s necessary) or switch to an all-core overclock with lower voltages, which might bring down the temps?

Consider using a full core oscillator at lower voltage. Stock settings tend to overheat the CPU due to high voltage. Start with 1.3V manually, medium LLC, and a 42x gain. I’m unsure about the maximum safe voltage, but TSCM mentioned 1.3V is their process spec—hard to verify. 1.3V is well below the 1.4V+ threshold where AMD starts pushing harder. Best to stay safer. Yes, an all-core OC sets a constant voltage with no offset. You can use either the BIOS or Ryzen Master depending on your preference and system requirements.

I tested the @1usmus CTR settings and it worked well. I now have a voltage of 1.275 with all cores running at 4350MHz, which gives better performance and lower temperatures. My main worry is whether this could damage the CPU over time—like constant high clock speeds without idle periods? That seems reasonable to me.

It's complicated. The risk of degradation is lower compared to higher voltage stock settings. I'm concerned about using CTR and possibly encountering a PEBKAC problem.

He noted those LLC warnings can be disregarded even though other issues exist, and the tool recommends things like a 6000mhz clock speed. He’s pushing for a quick hotfix now. You have an MSI board—just keep using LLC mode 3 as advised in the guide, but I’m not sure what else to do.
