Purchase an affordable headset on Amazon, install LeapMotion, and obtain the full RiftCat 2.0 version.

Avoid low-cost VR options. Keep patience—maturity will bring better value, and you won’t be left behind.

It varies by the guidelines you use. Intel would agree, while NVIDIA, AMD, Oculus and HTC would disagree.

RiftCat looks solid once used, though its wireless nature and reliance on a phone make it far from the original experience. Just go for it if you're curious but not serious.

Perhaps at that stage few people engage with VR, aside from a few major titles like Onwards.

I recently tried my VR headset with an i3 4150 and GTX 760 4GB just for fun. It worked fine but didn’t feel great. Watching around didn’t show much lag or stuttering. If you’re trying to keep your head steady, you’ll notice small head movements—this is quite obvious. Not ideal for cards below a GTX 960/R9 380.

It's likely a 1050ti will give you smooth visuals rather than top frame rates for VR. It won't match the performance of modern dual-core processors from the past decade, but it should handle the CPU demands of most VR games well.
