I'm considering if it's beneficial to keep my CPU downvolting at -0.85 on this Intel i7-11700K with a dual 120mm Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE. I turned off AVX because none of my applications use it, but I just turned it back on without changing the settings. When running at a steady 4.7GHz and a max TDP of 256, I notice temperatures staying around 65°C. I'm thinking about re-enabling AVX since some games benefit from it, but I want to stick with basic AVX instead of the higher versions. The temperature test shows what happens when I go above 4.6GHz. Should I switch back to basic AVX and try a 4.7GHz setting instead?

Are you aware of any tasks that heavily tax all cores for an extended period? Since there’s no benefit in improving temperatures when the CPU is already operating within acceptable ranges, focusing on better thermal solutions makes more sense. If AVX doesn’t noticeably boost performance, there’s little value in turning it off. Unless you require maximum efficiency for a specific reason, it’s not worthwhile to sacrifice stability for marginal gains. For instance, if a game runs smoothly at 300 frames per second but drops to 305 fps when AVX is off, simply maintaining a stable frame rate isn’t the priority. To keep all cores active, consider slightly reducing voltage and checking if performance improves further.

You didn’t need the AVX adjustment to lower the frequency because it was already safe from overheating. The setting was turned off by default.

AVX is applied in certain games but I haven’t played any. The offset you set is around 4.7 with cstats off, which results in a performance of about 4698mhz to 4702mhz max—roughly 88c at 4.6ghz. With AVX disabled, the numbers drop to around 70c. If you use AVX Small FFT, even at -0.85 voltage, your cooler claims it can handle up to 255watt TDP. It seems to stay below 4.6 when running small FFT tests. I plan to replace the thermal paste soon; maybe the original stuff isn’t ideal.
