I'm planning to purchase a processor and a GTX1080 from a friend and I'm looking for a motherboard. I'm assembling this PC because the components are just lying around, and I don't want to spend too much money. Is that the most affordable option that still allows overclocking? Should I go with a 1700X if it means I can overclock? Otherwise, I might be wasting my time.
I'm a bit darker on the outside, but don't let that stop you. Jokes aside, check out a used B or X board—boards can't be overclocked yet, so I haven't tried crossflashing to a B board. Some models have the same layout but different chipsets (like A520M D3SH and B550 DS3H).
It would allow boosting performance beyond normal limits, though deciding if you should do it depends on the quality of the power delivery network. Are the board's VRM heatsinks present?
