Current build: R7 3700x 32gb ram MSI x370 pro carbon 3080 12gb I can get a 5800x3d for £290, or hold out a while and get new mobo (MSI pro b650-S), Corsair vengeance 32gb ddr5 6600mhz ram, and the 7800x3d for £600. Just looking for opinions on what would be optimal, if the 5800x3d is worth it for me or no and if Am5/ddr5 is reliable enough now? I mainly play star citizen, RuneScape & whatever new games take my fancy. Thankyou for any feedback!
I’d prefer to see what kind of games you intend to play. High-performance 1080p titles will likely gain more from a stronger CPU than graphics-intensive options, especially if you aim for 1440p or 4K. Right now, 5800X3D seems to offer solid enough performance for most games.
1440p will still push most GPUs to their limits. Upgrading to a 5800X3D seems reasonable, and the savings from a 7000-series CPU could easily fund a 7900XT, 4080, or 7900XTX in the future. Your motherboard appears capable of handling the heat from the CPU—just ensure it receives a BIOS update.
