I’m working with an Alienware prebuilt unit (a nice surprise!) and attempting a fixed voltage undervolt from 1.22v to 1.18v using throttlestop. During a benchmark run, HWInfo showed around 1.35 volts, but the CPU drew 135w instead of shutting off at 100w as it normally does. It spiked to 123w and then dropped to 86c. The test lasted roughly five minutes, and I restored everything to stock afterward. People often caution against overvolting, so I’m curious about the long-term impact on my CPU’s health from this incident.

The CPU is working properly, just avoid overusing the board. It seems the device isn't intended for the tasks you're planning.

I also have a 9700 in my Dell G5. When I run prime95 with the smallest fFTs, it produces about 170 watts on the CPU at 1.35V. The main issue is the VRMs overheating up to 96°C and causing the CPU to throttle to 65W right away until they cool back down to 94°C, after which full power resumes and the cycle repeats. Your CPU isn't being harmed.

The main issue is the VRMs overheating up to 96°C and causing the CPU to throttle to 65W right away until they cool back down to 94°C, after which full power resumes and the cycle repeats. Your CPU isn't being harmed.

I power my 9700k to +200W using the existing overclock setting. Previously reached over 250W, which became slightly excessive. I'm currently around 1.4v, up to 1.45v with adequate cooling. I've been running this overclocked setup since summer 2019.

I’m not sure if it damaged the motherboard or if the issue was mainly short-term. I reverted it to the standard -0.120 undervolt setting and adjusted the voltages immediately after observing the increased voltage.
