Check how well the new power supply fits with the old motherboard.
Hello, thank you for reaching out. I'm working on assembling a computer with a blend of vintage and modern components to cut costs, but I'm having trouble with motherboard and power supply compatibility. After trying two standard PSUs, neither has worked with my Asus P8Z77-V LK. I've confirmed the motherboard requires EATX 12V for CPU power, yet all PSUs I've seen list ATX 12V. I thought I could connect them since they share the same socket, but the plugs don't match up. With this PSU, I can only partially connect the CPU power, which powers on but doesn<|pad|> to work. My current setup includes... Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LK CPU: Intel Core i7-3770k RAM: 16GB (4x4GB) Corsair Vengeance HDD: WD 1.0 TB. I've also bought... CPU cooler, PSU: EVGA 850 BQ Case: NZXT H5 Flow. Are newer PSUs really incompatible with models like the Asus P8Z77-V LK? Am I misunderstanding the CPU power requirements? Please let me know if I'm on the wrong track. Thanks again, and I appreciate your time.
Confirm the setup is correct. Combine the two EPS 4-pin modules as described.
^^^ Actually atx hasnt really changed much since it was made and new standards like pcie 5.0 or whatever are just for new gpus, everything else has remained the same for the past 20 or so years If it doesnt fit then probs just user error, could have just put it backwards or something, if you wanna test with just 1 4 pin just take one of the 4 pins and try on both sides of the eps connector till it goes in If you arent gonna upgrade the build or anything this is just nuts, straight up worth more than the cpu mobo and ram combined, but ill just be under the assumption that youll probs upgrade it to used ryzen real soon cause ivy is just ancient now and isnt really all that special atleast if you are an oc nut, bet even the imc gets beaten by 1366 nehalem/westmere since i have a 930 capable of 3200+ ddr3 (sticks topped out so idk how far it actually goes) And imo older boards dont really fit new cases aesthetics wise, just a ton of colour accents and not just the full black or black/white of new mobos, but again under the assumption of an upgrade here
