It seems there was a recent adjustment. My wife's 8700 non-k model runs smoothly at about 1.15 to 1.2v max even when idle. I just lifted the power limits and it works fine. The same goes for my son's 9400—it doesn’t really draw much power either. Both have lower SKUs and aren’t K chips.
