Check for updates on Windows 10.
If I have to update my drivers every month, it'll be a nightmare. With the Windows 10 Tech Preview they brought a new release roughly once a month in ISO format, which just reinstalled Windows on restart to its latest version. The Windows 8 beta and 7 beta didn't offer this feature. Given how much Windows 10 Tech Preview changes, I'm unsure if this update will become a lasting fix.
Windows tends to apply updates during times when you're not actively using the device. It may display a confusing prompt urging you to restart, giving you time to delay the process. This behavior is similar to what Windows 7 does when you install updates yourself before shutting it down.
I don't know why people think this is a bad idea. Sure, faulty updates could happen, but damn are they rare. But, most of them patch VULNERABILITIES within the core OS. So, instead of running around with that massive vulnerability, that could potentially install malware/rootkits/randomware, you're patched the minute it comes out (or however long you're allowed to delay). Instead of delaying forever.
Both Windows 10 and 10 Pro receive force updates with drivers included. The Pro version only lets you postpone installing the available update set—you can't skip any steps. Your suggestion about drivers not being forced has gathered some support, but it needs more backing to reach Microsoft. I wasn't planning to share anything. I just realized you mentioned a news post and thought it might be helpful to provide the correct details.
It’s hard to imagine MS pushing for an update while you’re gaming or handling other tasks. They likely understand many users on Windows, and it wouldn’t make sense to delay it.
