Check for potential issues with your router's performance.
Hello! I’m about to change my internet provider and expect a theoretical speed of 1Gbps. My current router supports up to 300Mbps, but I’m curious—will connecting via Ethernet affect the performance back into my PC? I’ve checked online, but most discussions focus only on Wi-Fi speeds, not the internal connection. If I switch to Ethernet directly, will there be any limitations? Thanks!
The TP-Link WR841N supports all LAN ports and the WAN port at 10/100/1000 speeds.
The ISP-provided modem works with Gigabit speed, allowing a direct connection to your PC without a router. This means you won’t have Wi-Fi until you install a new router, and I prefer not to limit my speeds until then. (Should make sense)
In theory, you could link two wireless devices and exchange files directly at speeds up to 300Mbit. Most users don’t require this, so I’d let marketing decide it, similar to Powerline adapters that claim 500Mbit but rely on a standard Ethernet controller.
I noticed you're reflecting on a new discovery. That's great! Let me know if you'd like to share more.
