This situation is really frustrating. I'm having trouble with my graphics cards. The 2080 and 1660S work fine in an x8 slot but not on a PCIe x16 card. It seems the motherboard might be the problem—I reinstalled it after updating the BIOS, and now both cards only boot when drivers are installed on the x16. Once drivers are set up, they won't start up until I switch to an x8 slot. I've checked the BIOS settings for PCI slots, but the issue still occurs.
I recently got a new motherboard, and with the x8 slot it sometimes works, though I experience hiccups on the desktop. It's strange since both cards are brand new and haven't been used before. Hello, this seems like an unusual question. What are those boards you're referring to? If both boards share the same CPU, could it be a shared component? You mentioned having just one CPU between the two boards for testing—have I never heard of a 12-pin CPU plug? Typically they come in 4 or 8 pins.

Motherboard: MSI mpg edge ac z390 / ASRock taichi z390 CPU: i7 9700k RAM: 32GB Corsair vengeance Video card: MSI 2080 Seahawk / MSI 1660S Currently there is one SSD. The CPU power connector is on the PSU side with an 8 pin. The board has a mix of 1 8-pin and 1 4-pin (12 pins total). On the other side I accidentally swapped the connections. I’m not sure if the rails match on both sides, but I only have one CPU to test. I might consider getting an i5 9600k as a backup to check if it’s the same model.
