I don't know which one works, but the router's interface is very poor and limits port forwarding and saving more than two ports.

Fresh Tomato performs well with the latest firmware updates from around 2020, restoring strong Wi-Fi performance. I’m running it on an AC15 and it’s very reliable—no resets needed for a year. It works as a wireless client to extend my wired network, placed behind a desk at the end of a long Ethernet cable over 400 feet underground. I’m thinking about switching to an AC18; they seem just as solid as the Asus-ac68.

You may also use AsusWRT Merlin, but keep in mind: after flashing to Merlin, the router can't be reset—it will become unusable. Don’t try to press the reset button behind the router or go through the web GUI reset. I’ve used my AC18 flash to Merlin for nearly two years; it worked fine until I accidentally reset the router and forgot the login password. I had to contact RMA to replace it, and they suggested using a new one until now. For firmware updates, consider downloading Asus ac68U or ac66U_B1 into the AC18. The 380 version is recommended since 384 models include MESH, which could brick the device if MESH is enabled on the AC18.
