I’ve seen claims of running a GTX1650 with an i7-2600, but a bus-powered GTX1650 in a PCIe3 slot would show the startup splash logo through its HDMI output before stopping, emitting a beep every half minute. Is this specific to the H61 model or just a PCIe1 limitation? The board’s constraints are clearly influencing this situation. While I’m aware the H61 is limited to PCIe1, the real question is whether it can handle a GTX1650—would that work? I’m also considering a Z68 or Z77 motherboard for the GTX1650, but the i7-2600 would likely be restricted to PCIe2. That seems contradictory. Am I misunderstanding something? The 2600 model would only support PCIe 2.0. I’ve never come across any boards using PCIe 1.0 after LGA 775. The 1156 boards with PCIe 1.0 seem unlikely, though the really old 1155 models don’t sound too out of place. I’m not sure the H3N series is PCIe 1.0, and I’m pretty confident the 1650 would work with Gen 2. Probably your OEM board is restricting things, unless you can get a cheap H61 model—preferably from ASUS or Gigabyte. Anything should work. Speaking of, I also faced problems with my 9500GT display card on Z77; my GTS250 works perfectly. It seems the card doesn’t initialize on older boards but functions fine on newer ones. Maybe it’s just a compatibility issue. I’m considering swapping it for a cheaper 6350 or 7470 if needed. If the new board supports PCIe, I won’t be left without a display—especially since a PCIe compatible one could be made from a mini-PCIe adapter and a laptop debug card. I won’t settle for a broken board without PCI slots just to save time on unrelated matters. It would be frustrating to find out the boards are working but the PCIe slot or display isn’t functional, especially with a dirty slot or outdated hardware.
Not exactly. Problems can arise when mixing very different hardware eras, such as 2011 and 2019. PCIe gen isn’t the main concern here. The biggest challenge is whether the card accepts BIOS or UEFI startup. Most boards from the Z68/Z77 period don’t support UEFI and require a BIOS-compatible card to function properly. Many GPUs from the 10 series also struggle with legacy boot setups for various reasons. Solutions exist using an older GPU alongside your current one, but these are usually not worth it. Consider swapping in an older card like a GTX 970 if you’re willing to trade your current model. Yes, the slot is designed for PCIe 2.0 and is marked as PCIe1 since it’s the first PCIe connector.

Consider turning on the iGPU along with the dGPU. Most boards include a configuration option (sometimes labeled differently) that allows the system to start up. Once inside Windows, it should be able to install the GPU driver and function properly. This isn't ideal—you'll need to link the monitor to the iGPU for BIOS tweaks—but it works in practice. If you're planning this route, it might be wiser to upgrade to a modern system with a Haswell or newer chip instead. You can find an i7 4770K paired with a decent motherboard for a reasonable price (I bought a 4670K with a GTX 770 on a GA-Z87X-OC board a few months back for around $100). These boards are affordable and reliable, avoiding the problems older Lenovo models often face.

Attempted it before, unfortunately. The BIOS supports IGPU, PCIE or AUTO. AUTO didn’t work, so that’s settled. The link I discovered earlier clarifies the choices are quite limited. I located a local HP system for $120 with a 4th-gen i5, which would likely provide a solid base. It might be cheaper eventually, as it’s been on the market for months. I previously skipped it because it has a 4C / 4T that could cause issues even with the 2600. There are other benefits too—PCIe boot (possibly an M.2 slot), and probably factory PCIe3 support that would handle a 1650 without trouble. At least I can recoup some value from the Lenovo upgrades. Though the case was damaged before purchase, I’d probably find a cheap $50 case. It’s a m.ATX board; maybe I could swap it into my old 1700 rig’s aquarium case with a 1050/1060 and fit that B450/1700/GTX1650 setup in a better one. Thanks for the assistance, everyone. To create these kinds of setups you need caution. I've noticed it's most straightforward to work with Optiplex PCs. What makes it easier is the large number of options available. If you encounter a problem, you can easily search for the right board for your needs. There are people who know the best Optiplex boards for different situations. Lenovo and HP are possible, but the information is less comprehensive and generally simpler.
I managed to locate the details indicating maximum support around 1050/ti/1060. This explains why the board fails to boot with the 1650. I can reinstall it in the 3600X build while considering my next steps. Naturally, I’m unable to find a suitable top dust filter for the 4000X case... JFC, always a good idea. I tend to keep valuable components in decent shape even if they’re not fully functional. Looking around my PC collection, I have some suggestions that could work. For around $225 (or less), I can upgrade my old 1700 rig to a Focus Mini G with better RAM and a few SATA DVD/DVD-RW drives I already own. A setup under $200 will get the Lenovo board back in its original case, equipped with 1050/ti/1060 and 8-16GB RAM. Although I’m not keen on selling it, the performance won’t be impressive, but it could be worth $600-$700 for a 1700/GTX1650, or $300-$500 for an i7-2600/1050/1060 build might seem fair. My 3600X/GTX1650 build could be worth about $1000-$1200. Not a massive gain after purchasing parts, but it helps with the issue of too many machines. Of course, this still means I’m stuck with the i3-2100 that came with the Lenovo unit. Sure, it’s not meant for gaming, but it would work well as a budget-friendly computer for browsing or YouTube.
