Check DDR5 latency settings for compatibility
I'm focusing on purchasing a ready-made system instead of building it myself. I'm planning to use a 7800x3D and a 7800xt motherboard, but the prebuilders only offer the DDR5 Corsair Vengeance 6000 CL40. There seems to be some confusion about cas latency that isn't clear to me. I won't be tweaking anything manually and want a smooth setup and gaming experience. Since they don’t have other options, I’m curious if this will cause any problems.
CL40 is quite high for an am5 rig. 5600 CL28 works well, though 6000 CL30 offers better value as kits are available for $95 2x16. Making it yourself gives you a better return on investment. Edited January 29, 2024 by filpo
The difference between CL30 and CL40 is minimal, usually seen in just a few frames.
They mentioned a 5600 and want to know the CAS latency. If that's not the cl28, they'll go with the cl40 6000. Thanks for the assistance.
You're asking about how to get 15 from a 6000 MHz Cl30 to Cl40 setup, referencing a specific image showing 157 vs 164.
The evaluation used a 7950X, not a 7800X3D. The key benefit of the large L3 cache in X3D processors is to minimize memory accesses, which results in a much smaller performance difference. Compared to the 7700X (closer to the 7950X in gaming scenarios), the 7950X3D showed only a 4% gap, whereas the 7700X had an 11% gap.
RAM can be quickly replaced. The CL40 may run a bit slower but is manageable for games. Whether you're concerned about 157 or 164 frames depends on your preference. Purchase the PC now, relax and enjoy gaming.
