Hello, I'm searching for a suitable upgrade for my Unraid server and came across the Intel Xeon E-2468. Since I'm in the EU, most listings were priced higher than the official MSRP. Many ads also used "OEM" in their titles. Is this chip meant only for direct sales? If not, are there a comparable consumer version with similar cores, ECC support, and minimal power usage?
Regular i3/i5/i7 processors work well with ECC on W680 boards. With tuning they run very efficiently. AMD is another viable choice.

I chose the i5-13600T/14600T with an ASRock W680D4U-2L2T/G5. The specs list multiple OCuLink ports. Could a 24-inch and a 12-inch mini SAS backplane be linked together without needing an additional HBA or RAID controller?
The Oculus ports, aside from the one with four SATA slots, are PCIe only. This means a SAS backplane won’t fit, and you’ll need a SAS controller instead.

Examined the ASRock board closely—I notice it lacks a PCIe 8x slot. Can we leverage these OcuLink ports to combine two x4 slots into one PCIe 8x port? That way, I could connect my HBA/Raid Controller and leave the x16 port free for a future x16 GPU. The SuperMicro X13SAE-F might be a suitable replacement. Updated February 16, 2024 by sPaCe MoNk3y
I’d likely choose the alternative board since there’s probably no simple path to get an x8 from dual x4s. You might manage fine at x4 speeds without too much trouble. I’d also check out the AM4/AM5 server boards—they offer better power efficiency and avoid dealing with P and E cores.
