check cpu quality before installing aftermarket cooler
Hi everyone, I've got the Intel G3258 running at 4.2 on 1.249v with a stock cooler. It works stably, but when I try to push it to 4.3 at 1.278v during stress testing, it fails even though the temperature doesn't reach 80. Now I realize the issue isn’t the heat—it’s a big voltage barrier that prevents the CPU from running at 4.3. I’m wondering if an aftermarket cooler would help enough to allow it to run at 4.7. It seems like jumping from 4.2 to 4.3 might be a waste of money and could hurt the CPU by forcing it to draw more voltage for such a low frequency. Also, spending on an aftermarket cooler might cost me between a GTX 950 and a GTX 960. I’m curious about the exact voltages needed to get this CPU to run at 4.3 and whether it can reach 4.7 regardless of temperature.
If you're experiencing less than 80C on the stock cooler at 4.3GHz yet failing the stress test, it suggests the issue lies elsewhere rather than with heat. You might be using a chip that's poorly binned. Try increasing the voltage slightly and observe if stability improves at 4.3GHz. Monitor temperatures closely. If stability is achieved and temperatures remain acceptable, progressing to 4.4GHz without further voltage increases seems possible. Continue tracking temperatures and stability throughout.

If you are getting less than 80C on stock cooler at 4.3GHz but then fails a stress test then you are right that heat is not your block. You may simply have a badly binned chip. You can try a slightly higher voltage and see if it becomes more stable at 4.3GHz. In this instance watch the temps carefully. If you get the stability you want and the temp is reasonable that would indicate a step to 4.4GHz is feasible with no further voltage increase. Again watch temps and stability. If the temps are still reasonable but no stability then piling on more voltage isn't really going to help as there is not a lot of headroom left.
it did get stable on 4.3ghz @ 1.283v but temp gets to mid 80 while stress and mid 70 while gaming tried to push it to 4.4ghz but non go :/ gonna need to be 1.3v to get there , not what I was expecting or even hoping. not sure if this cpu will make it to 4.6
You must admit I missed out on the silicon prize with this component.
