I was thinking about purchasing the Ryzen 7 2700X for my gaming PC and wanted to know if it would fit on my motherboard. My current setup uses a Gigabyte AB350M-DS2-CF Am4 socket, so I was curious—would that work? Thanks in advance!
Zen 2 CPUs might struggle with performance because of high power consumption. The available Zen 2 CPUs include Intel Core i5 and i7, as well as AMD Ryzen 5 and 7 models.
I believe power consumption would likely limit performance rather than functionality in typical scenarios. If the Zen 2 offers advantages, that wouldn’t change the outcome.
I don't believe you'll purchase one with a power consumption high enough to disrupt the board. Keep in mind that the B350 requires a BIOS update to function properly with both second and third generation CPUs. Zen 2 processors are generally around 3600 MHz or higher, so third generation chips are the focus. In short, anything needing all eight cores will likely cause throttling on budget boards like this.
