I'm set up with an MSI B450 Pro carbon Wi-Fi and a Ryzen 5 2400G processor. The 3060 is due tomorrow. Should I upgrade my motherboard BIOS to version 4.0? I don’t know how to manage BIOS settings. Thanks, Edited July 1, 2021 by moist568

It will function properly. The BIOS handles fundamental tasks and system checks for your PC. The main reason someone might urgently need a firmware upgrade is when installing a newer CPU on an older motherboard that hasn't been updated yet. Occasionally, new features appear that enthusiasts might want. Always avoid updating the BIOS when power is interrupted—you risk damaging your system.

Yes, PCIe 4.0 can be automatically enabled when a 3060 is installed.

They usually let PCIE devices recognize themselves, while BIOS mainly manages software behavior. I’ve got a bigger challenge ahead, why are you matching a 2400G with a 3060? If you plan to upgrade the CPU, I’d suggest updating the BIOS since you’ll need the latest version for support of newer chips. B450 only supports 3.0, so you’ll need B550 for 4.0 compatibility. Plus, GPU performance isn’t significantly impacted by bandwidth issues right now.

I'm matching a 2400g with a 3060 because the 2400g comes from my previous setup, so I'm doing it since I can't afford a GPU and CPU together this month. Next month I intend to purchase a new CPU, likely a 3600XT.

This works because you're using version 4.0 of the system.

It doesn't. The left side shows the PCIe version and available lanes, while the right side indicates the actual performance it achieves.

You're using a PCIe X4 slot instead of the standard 16x configuration.

I checked the settings and confirmed it was connected to your GPU.
