I reviewed Gigabyte's site and confirmed they offer Windows XP drivers for the board. Everything is ready.

That's a good plan, I'm sure it'll go smoothly. No problems expected. 😊

The first generation Core iX lacked any GPUs, so you're likely considering a later generation model.

I own a P260 nearby, though I see some GTX 550 Ti listings for around thirty dollars on Kijiji. I might consider it, but it doesn’t seem crucial.

Using 550Ti SLI on a Windows XP machine is a bit unusual, but it works if you're okay with that.

I could easily get the p260 for $20, but in reality, SLIing on 660ti’s was already problematic. I don’t want to face another nightmare with the Nvidia CS…

Need to crank up the speed to 144 fps for that Zoo Tycoon game.

At the location where I used to work, a machine had an IVY BRIDGE i3 running XP. It looks like drivers are available there... The first generation Core i series should handle XP well—it's just the one generation following the Core 2 series, which were consistently updated with XP support.

Standard drivers ensure basic functionality, but performance may vary based on the specific hardware. Generic drivers are compatible with common standards, allowing basic operation without full features. Without them, the system might display correctly in BIOS or UEFI mode, though performance will be limited until proper drivers are installed. Updates can improve compatibility and speed.
