I've attempted to start from both a Rufus-flashed drive and one set up with Ventoy. Usually it shows the Windows logo followed by a blinking terminal cursor. Testing a Quadro K420 helped confirm the GMA950 wasn't the issue. I'm aiming for ten running on a Pentium 4 since Prescott CPUs can handle Cinebench R23, which is a bit frustrating. Right now seven are installed, which could be a good base though I'd like a fresh install. Lastly, do you know where to find a reliable copy of an older 10 image that still works with a Pentium III?
I made sure the Rufus setup used the MBR. The Ventoy appears okay as I imported 7 from it. I might consider an in-OS upgrade later, but I’d favor a fresh install for benchmarking, even if it’s not perfectly precise here.
I remember a bit about it, so I checked the specifics. You need a 65nm processor to run the 64-bit edition of Windows 10, as the 90nm models (which you have) are missing two essential instructions required for 64-bit functionality. The 32-bit version should be fine.
Sure, happy to help! It sounds like you're looking for a 64-bit CPU version of Cedar Mill due to benchmark requirements.
yes, specifically it is missing prefetchw extension which is a requirement starting with windows 8.1 64bit. I'm not sure if windows 8.0 64bit would work though. there is no windows 10 support regardless on pentium iii it lacks sse2 which was baked into windows 7 requirements at some point even. fun fact, there is a few updates for windows 7 that do not check for sse2 support and just install automatically and then brick the install. cedar mill is probably your best shot for netburst. Not sure your goals but pentium dual cores are based on core microarch and are fully supported by win10
