Check existing records for Ryzens excluding PBO support; look for clear indicators like labels or restrictions. Compatibility hinges on the specific product type and formulation details.

PBO came with the second generation Threadripper and Zen+ Ryzen processors. If it's a mid to higher-end board, it should fit in the UEFI BIOS. I don't remember it being available on my 2700x since I used a B350 motherboard; I'd have needed a B450 model. Anything released after those chips in 2018 works fine.

For Zen+, only certain CPUs offered PBO support. The non-X models lacked it, while the -X variants such as the 2600X and 2700X did have PBO.

Only works with a B450 or higher chipset and a 2018 or newer X-version chip. Your older 1700 model can't handle it. You might consider upgrading to a better board if PBO is available. Edited April 20, 2022 by An0maly_76

I'm having trouble recalling older details about this topic. From what I understand, it wasn't widely used in the early Ryzen era. Some sources mention limited compatibility with non-X 2000 series chips at certain points, but effectiveness was low. As BIOS updates came out, the situation likely changed. I spent a lot of time searching for ways to use it on my B350/2700x, but couldn't find any support. Curious, I might take the machine apart and try it myself.

It's hard to locate even on my B550-PLUS. It appears under the AI options and can be easily ignored—it scrolls a bit more than a full page at a time on my machine. This is quite frustrating. I suspect the 1700 chip is exclusive to OC builds and doesn't support PBO. I'm curious if I could have achieved better overall performance by replacing the 1700 with a 3090 and a good monitor (like a 60 Hz 55-inch TV that mimics 120 Hz) on a similar cooling rig, instead of going for the 5900X. It seems the extra cost on the 5900X might have been better used for a 3090 and a decent display. Updated April 21, 2022 by An0maly_76 Added more details
