Hello, I just purchased a Ryzen 5 5600 to upgrade from my Ryzen 7 1700. My motherboard is the Asus ROG Strix x370-f gaming, so I verified if it could support that processor. According to Asus, BIOS version 6026 for Ryzen 5000 CPUs is officially compatible. I upgraded to BIOS 6042 and attempted installation, but it didn’t boot—even the control LED stayed off. I checked for bent pins but found none. After reinstalling the old CPU, RAM slots 3 and 4 (the ones farthest from the socket) stopped working. I tried reinstalling the latest BIOS and re-seating the RAM, which finally resolved the issue. Now I’m concerned it might have been a faulty CPU or my setup was incorrect, so I’m reaching out for advice. Current specs: Asus ROG Strix x370-f gaming Ryzen 7 1700, 2x 8GB DDR4 RAM, 3200Mhz RAM, RTX 3070, 850W PSU, BIOS version 6042.

The RAM isn't fitting into those slots. The settings should be 1 and 3, 2 and 4, or both. This might indicate a problem with the BIOS.

Based on my analysis, the problem stemmed from the RAM slot configuration. After reinstalling the old CPU, the system refused to boot, indicated by the red light. Switching the RAM to slot 1 resolved the issue, confirming that slot 4 was the source of the problem.

Checks functionality with slots 1 and 3 active. For the latest CPU, use only slot one. Reset CMOS after installing the new CPU and placing RAM in slot one. This usually resolves the issue.

It didn't work, even after CMOS reset and ram only in slot one. Still no control light or anything. Does that mean the CPU is not working?
