Hello everyone, I'm looking for some guidance here. Is the Ryzen 3-3100 at 3.9GHz compatible with the ASUS PRIME B450M-A AM4 motherboard? This is my first build and I'm having trouble getting it to work. I've heard that this chipset might not be supported by this board. Thanks in advance, AS!

It works with BIOS versions 1607 and above. Asus typically labels the preinstalled bios on the serial label, often the final four digits, and sometimes on the packaging. Reaching out to their support team can help identify the exact label for you.

If you purchased it a while back, your motherboard might still be outdated. But if you bought it recently, it's likely up-to-date because ASUS refreshes the BIOS over time.

If the stock isn't new there is nothing he can do about it

Consider an MSI board equipped with BIOS Flashback. This capability lets you update the BIOS to the newest release even without a CPU installed, guaranteeing your Ryzen 3 3100 boots up correctly. I suggest the MSI B450 Tomahawk Max for $115—it offers this feature and remains a strong choice now and later. It outperforms the Prime B450, though it may not be the best option if you need a different CPU. If the Tomahawk isn’t available or seems overpriced, the MSI B450 Mortar is a solid alternative. Wishing you success with your build!

Hey, you missed a key point...the only option right now is to figure it out without using another processor.

Thanks a lot everyone! Your answers are really helpful. The sticker and ASUS site mention bios: Version 1820, released 2019/09/24, Update AGESA 1.0.0.3ABBA to boost performance. It also removes Gen 4 support for Ryzen 3000 CPUs. I’m considering returning it and buying a better board. AS
