Hi, I just purchased two of these boards (Asus Pro B550M-C/CSM) and planned to use the 5600G in both configurations. I haven’t bought any CPUs yet. I started noticing many complaints about CPU compatibility because some AM4 boards came with old BIOS versions. When I look up the board model number at the official support site, the BIOS versions listed are from 0214 to 2423. After checking one of the boxes, I found the label says 0214. I didn’t try turning it on to confirm, but I’m assuming that’s correct. The only CPU mentioned as being 'Validated since BIOS 0214' is the Ryzen 7 5800.

Does 'Validated since..' mean the 5800 will work with this 0214 BIOS?
Is it true that the manual says EZ Flash 3, so I can update the BIOS without a CPU?
Anyone have experience with this setup? Asus Pro B550M-C/CSM and 5600G? I’m getting a bit concerned. Any general advice would be appreciated.

These are "Corporate Stable Models" (CSM) boards built with older components such as outdated onboard audio and network chips. They are mass-produced to the point where they can reliably be reused for a few years—potentially up to five if conditions are right. It appears these boards lack full support for Bios flashback, a technology that lets you update the BIOS without installing the CPU on the motherboard, just by inserting a USB drive and pressing a button. Probably because they don’t want users in corporate settings to easily change BIOS settings without proper credentials or steps. If your BIOS is very old, you may need a compatible CPU first, then install the 5600G. Supported CPUs can be found here: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards-Compon...pDesk_CPU/. In the Downloads section, click "BIOS and Firmware" to view available versions and their release dates. The compatibility list lists 1401 for most processors, but that doesn’t match what you’d expect. Most boards should support 5xxx series from the first version, with later models adding support for graphics-enabled chips or improved features. It seems they revalidated the 1401 BIOS after testing it with ReBAR support. You might want to try updating with a 5600G—if you don’t see a boot image within about a minute, it’s likely time for a BIOS upgrade. Upgrading to a newer CPU like Ryzen 3xxx or better is recommended, then load the BIOS from USB and follow the update instructions.

Thanks for the responses; most of my questions were addressed. I also received a message from the person in the other discussion who shared some useful insights. The more I understand these platforms, the more uncertain I feel about using them. Still unsure whether to keep them or return them to eBay, wondering about their origin and what I might get instead. It’s possible I’ll abandon the APU approach and go with a CPU plus GPU setup instead. I’ll share my thoughts once it’s too late for the thread to become outdated.

The board advertises availability for 3000, 4000 and 5000 series models. Your concern is valid—the Asus support list doesn’t list any CPUs from the 3000 series. This seems contradictory since the 3300x was launched in May 2020 and its BIOS was released in October 2020. It appears the board’s claims may not align with the actual release timeline, making it unclear why it lists older models when newer ones are available.

The B550 and A520 chipsets officially back Ryzen 3xxx and above, as shown in the table below (excluding Ryzen 3200g and 3400g which are actually Ryzen 2xxx "cores" with extra integrated graphics). AMD provides the code to support Ryzen 3xxx processors within the same "binary blob," while motherboard makers focus on the visual layout (like bios graphics, option ordering, visibility settings, etc.). It's conceivable that someone might try to limit a board to only Ryzen 5xxx chips by forcing the bios to reset constantly, but that seems unlikely. I think it’s more likely Asus simply omitted those processors from their catalog.

I didn’t manage to locate a fix. I ended up with five brand-new motherboards, but they’re compatible only with the Ryzen 7 5800 non X model, which isn’t available for purchase or updating at the moment.
