He recently acquired a prebuilt with an 17-10700F chip for editing and gaming. It's currently working fine enough for titles like Valorant, Halo 4, GTA V, and Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as apps such as Premiere Pro and After Effects. I did observe that the motherboard is an ASRock H410M HDV M.2. While it's true the 10700F is a locked chip, using an 8-core chip on a budget H410M board isn't uncommon. The reliability depends on proper installation and maintenance.

The board will reduce performance to guard against overheating. It will already limit power usage, so you'll see less speed and shorter boost times even before thermal issues arise. This configuration isn't ideal and seems uncertain, but it doesn't pose immediate danger. Over time, the heat will accelerate wear on the board, potentially shortening its lifespan compared to a setup with a more powerful chip.
