I wonder if an Asus B360-I with an 8700 CPU could support these processors. Although it can't be overclocked, the newer 9900KS with its full-core turbo reaches 5.0Ghz, which seems manageable. Your main concern is whether the B360's motherboard can accommodate them.

In theory it should work because yes it will have the 50x multiplier enable but in reality it is unlikely that it would run at 5ghz all cores. Gamer Nexus already found out that even on the Z390 Maximums Hero XI the i9 9900KS will throttle back to 4.6ghz all cores unless you remove all PL2 restrictions and override power safety... doing so increases power consumption on the CPU from 127W up to 200W. This is a very very stressful load for something tiny with lackluster VRM and Power Phasing solution like the ones your motherboard have: Spoiler So honestly I'd say no... it cannot handle it, I'd cheap up with the vanilla locked i9 9900 instead.
Not counting the technical difficulties stated above, from a philosophical perspective, if you already have an 8700 on it, don't bother. When "one day" comes, it will be because either 1) You need a wider chip with more cores/threads, or 2) you need more IPC. 1) A used 3700x (or hell even a 3900x)/Mobo by the time "one day" comes will be cheaper than buying a 9900ks, and perform better. 2) 9900ks doesn't really solve this problem enough to warrant the expense. Bonus) by the time "one day" comes, something new and cheap might come out and blow everything we currently have out of the water anyway. Keep what u got, fam. Worry about "one day"....another day.
