I switched to AMD recently and I'm a bit confused about the chipset. I've picked an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X and an MSI B450-A Pro Max MMO for my first build. Will they work together? Thanks!

Sure, it could function. Just make sure to match the CPU with a more capable motherboard—preferably one with improved VRM or a better heatsink to keep things cooler and prevent throttling.
