You're planning to buy a used Z170 motherboard and the seller mentioned they've updated the BIOS. I checked if the version supports 6th or 7th Intel, but I figured it's worth asking directly. Please let us know the Z170 motherboard model you purchased and the CPU you're trying to use. Typically, an updated BIOS will maintain support for older CPUs while adding compatibility with newer ones. Generally, BIOS version 3.00 covered all 6th generation CPUs, then versions 4.00 through 8.00 expanded support to include both 6th and 7th generation processors. If the seller mentioned a 7th Gen CPU, you're likely all set.
The 6700K and 6600K should function properly. After an update to BIOS version 2.0 or higher, it will support 7th generation CPUs and 6th generation processors. If a 7th generation chip is installed but still uses BIOS version 1.x, the system will fail to boot and display POST codes such as 00 or other initialization errors like 0d.
