I operate an LGA1366 Xeon on an X58 motherboard. These processors aren't enchanted, they're identical chips with various features turned on. Essentially it's about board compatibility. Just ensure someone has done this before, before investing your money. X299 is likely incompatible since Intel has addressed DIY attempts and prefers new purchases. If you're curious, I'm not very experienced with LGA2011 or LGA2011-3, but unlocked Xeons offer more excitement. Also, don't expect top speeds—every chip has its limits. Xeon processors stay locked in place and need ECC memory that matches their speed for proper function. They're usually only worth considering for home servers.
The L3 cache size reaches its limits and doesn’t significantly boost performance if other adjustments aren’t made. In my opinion, Xeon’s heat and noise levels are too high for everyday use; unless there’s a specific business need, it offers little real benefit. When you check the benchmarks, you’ll see a CPU that runs 10% faster, handles more threads, but its power draw jumps by 20 watts. Meanwhile, the memory specs are quite detailed—see Intel’s documentation for those details. If you’re using DDR3-1866 and your system supports it, you won’t reach the desired performance. Unless you can find a much cheaper CPU, you’re essentially swapping consistent speed for higher power use and heat, which isn’t ideal for gaming or heavy software tasks. For video encoding, the extra cores might matter more than the extra clock speed.

The Xeon seems like a solid choice, though not a huge improvement. If we can get a good price and it's not too hot or noisy, it might be worth it.
