I was thinking about swapping one of my 4GB RAM modules for an 8GB stick and wanted to know how much it would impact performance because they’re different sizes and not from the same brand.

When frequencies and timing match, your performance stays the same unless you're in a situation where 8GB isn't enough but 12GB helps, then it works better. Keep in mind that if you upgrade RAM and it's faster or slower than your existing setup, you must use the slower speed. Always verify your RAM's frequency before purchasing to avoid wasting money.
