Changing RAID to AHCI in Linux involves updating system settings and possibly rebuilding the filesystem.
I recently acquired a used Dell Latitude E7470 and opted to install Fedora; on my prior machine I ran Arcolinux. Seeking a fresh experience, I followed the guidance I’d gathered about Fedora and decided this would be my next step. To enhance my setup, I explored BIOS drive controllers, especially after a user reported that switching from RAID to AHCI resolved a battery drain issue during sleep mode. I’m considering making the same change. The BIOS defaults to RAID even though there’s only one M.2 slot. It seems possible to switch to AHCI without reinstalling the OS, likely by enabling safe boot or similar settings. I haven’t found specific instructions for Linux yet. I’m curious if it’s safe to change from RAID to AHCI without reinstalling Fedora, given the warning about data loss that appeared during installation. While such precautions are wise, I want to know if this is feasible.
I’ll create a backup first to ensure it works. It seems the same drive is used in AHCI or RAID mode without configured RAID arrays (probably the setup here). Proceed with the backup and then test.
