Changing memory speed beyond its default setting leads to major problems when powering off.
So, this feels like an odd one to me. A couple months back after my last cpu died and killed the mobo with it, I got a good deal on a 7700x, 32gb of DDR5, and a new mobo. The memory is rated for 6000mhz. To get it at that speed, I set it to the EXPO memory profile in the BIOS (only one available) and it worked perfectly, except it disabled sleep mode in windows and I could only shutdown. After a bit of research I found I could update the BIOS to the latest version then and it would fix it, and it did, but now whenever I shut down the system there's a roughly 50-75% chance that it throws some error just before it's off, and it refuses to post when I try to start it again. It would also give a single beep on shutdown, which I never knew was a thing. I'd have to clear the CMOS and redo all of my settings in the BIOS to get back to full speed again. I've tried contacting Gigabyte support, but they weren't very helpful. Pretty much said "well it shouldn't beep on shutdown, try without the OC." I want to keep as much of an oc as possible (gotta have every last drop of performance), but at this point it's either I learn to set an oc myself or run it at the default 4800mhz. I've updated to the newest version of the BIOS, and it still does this, so I'm at a loss for what I should do. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Should I just suck it up and deal, or should I try to learn how to set it at a slightly lower clock speed than what it's rated for? Could there be some wacky fix for the whole issue? Here's the spec list: CPU: Ryzen 7 7700X Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus B650 Elite AX (originally on bios version F2, issue started on F3, currently on F5a) Memory: G.Skill FlareX5 DDR5 32GB(2x16GB) GPU: EVGA RTX3070ti XC3 PSU: EVGA Supernova 650 G5 (650W) Storage: 1TB nvme m.2 SSD, 128GB SATA SSD, 1TB Toshiba HDD The only BIOS settings I've changed are: Extreme Memory Profile: EXPO 1 (everything related set to auto) Memory Context Restore: Enabled (cuts down boot times in half. Issue occurs regardless of what this is set to) I do wanna say that getting a new memory kit isn't an option. I got this kit for free (was a killer deal) and I can't afford anything new.
