Changing Gigabyte BIOS settings for 5xxx CPU models
Hello everyone, I’m planning to switch from my Gigabyte AB350 Gaming3 motherboard to a 5000 series CPU. I’m wondering if updating the BIOS will make it possible to use the older 1700 model anymore. It seems the F52i BIOS doesn’t mention any restrictions, but previous versions warn about Raven Ridge and not Summit Ridge support. I’m curious if newer BIOS updates come with limitations for older CPUs. To move forward, I think I’ll update the BIOS to the latest version, remove the old CPU, install the new one, and then restart. I appreciate any advice you can give!
You'd need to upgrade the BIOS to support the Ryzen 5000 series processor, which could mean sacrificing the 1000 series since they had to make trade-offs because the BIOS file size has limits. Yes, updating the BIOS for your Ryzen 1700 will remove the previous CPU model and allow the new one in, so everything should work fine!
