Switching from an Nvidia GPU to an AMD GPU doesn't necessarily require uninstalling the Nvidia drivers. You can install the AMD drivers directly, and since your system is using Pop_OS, it should handle the transition smoothly. Just ensure the AMD drivers are compatible with your current setup to avoid any issues.

You would have to remove the nvidia drivers manually, nothing gets deleted automatically. That being said, if hardware is not present driver wont be able to work so its not really a deal breaker if you dont uninstall it.

I haven't tried or noticed how Pop handles Nvidia drivers, but I think you'd need to delete the NVidia drivers manually. For Linux after swapping hardware, a separate / and /home partition could be ideal. This way, you wouldn't lose data or need to back up files, and you could reinstall your OS with the right ISO for that hardware. The challenge is limited storage for apps in the / partition—about 50GB should suffice if you're using Linux and not dual-booting on a small SSD.

That's a good idea to double-check.

Occasionally the driver might fail when updates or changes are applied, but it's mostly just unnecessary bloat unless you actually rely on it.

It's expected the Linux community will support each other, just as planned after the GNU/Linux merger in the 90s.

Yes, clearing the NVIDIA drivers can impact the AMD driver setup.

The removal of Nvidia drivers shouldn't impact AMD drivers, and you should still retain all necessary dependencies for both sets of drivers.
