Changing from Intel to AMD is a significant hardware upgrade.
I’m preparing to upgrade your CPU and motherboard, choosing AMD as the route. You currently have three drives: one SSD (your boot drive) and two HDDs (games and files). Windows 10 is installed. You’re wondering if you can connect both HDDs to the new board without issues and still access their contents. You also want to know if you can use your existing SSD as the boot drive without formatting it, and if a clean install is necessary—please find helpful links. If similar questions exist, I’ve included the references now. Thank you for your guidance!
I plan to perform a fresh setup. It’s safer than risking problems later. What do you consider a helpful site? You simply erase it and start over. Still, I wouldn’t invest in AMD until the latest releases arrive.
You’ll likely need to perform a complete setup on the SSD. If the two HDDs are merely storage for media and games, you should be able to keep the existing files without issues, leaving them unchanged. Windows can be sensitive when replacing motherboards. Switching chipset or vendors might make things worse. For optimal performance, a fresh installation is usually best—something I’ve personally experienced.
Perform a fresh setup. Otherwise the Intel and AMD firmware will conflict and lead to serious problems.
Start up and enjoy. Unlike those who suggest a fresh setup, I’ve actually worked with changing motherboards. Many of them. I’m not going to repeat the details here—check out my longer write-up later. Of course, you might think a few problems could arise, and you may face some unclear issues. Usually, they’re vague. If your pet gets sick, it’s likely because you didn’t reinstall the system properly.
