Linux doesn't retain hardware settings like Windows does, so it resets on each reboot. Most updates won't cause issues, except for scenarios where it needs to locate a device in a particular USB port or PCIe slot—typically network adapters if you've altered the default settings. After switching from Intel to AMD and then to AMD AM5 on two Windows 11 machines, everything functioned smoothly. I also performed some additional cleanup by removing items from Device Manager that were no longer recognized, though it wasn't essential. Keep in mind avoid this step when changing between an AMD hybrid chip like the 7950X3D and a different CPU; drivers won't work properly unless you install a fresh OS if you switch to a CPU without hybrid features.
